TBSFA FC Tabungkhok edged out ATVFA Thangmeiband by 4-3 goals during penalty shoot out to move into the semi final of the 4th Sangai Trophy Veterans' Football Championship 2022 played at Artificial Turf, Lamlong Thongkhong on Sunday.
The first quarter final match of the meet saw, TBSFA FC Tabungkhok and ATVFA Thangmeiband holding on each other with 2-2 goals during normal time play, needing a penalty shootout to decide the first semi finalist team.
ATVFA acted swiftly once the whistle was blown and fetched good dividends when Khupneingam pushed through to score the opening goal in the 2nd minute of play. However, TBSFA FC rallied back strongly and got the equaliser from Md Chaoba in the 10th minute.
The pace of the game got its momentum in the second half and yet again ATVFA stole the show when Khupneigam came up with his second goal in the 45th minute for the lead. But even more energetic were TBSFA FC player Md Chaoba as he curled his shot to the goal in the 63rd minute to level 2-2 goals.
Needing a penalty shootout to decide the ultimate winner, TBSFA FC put in two goals from Ranjit and Premchand to perfection while Md Chaoba and Debachandra wasted their kicks.
As for the ATVFA team, only Debananda converted his kick while Bhumeshor, Ngamkholen, Inaobi and Rohen failed to get the angle right.
In the second quarter final, FC Imphal, Mayaikoibi beat UVSA FC, Lilong Chajing by 4-1 goals to sail into the semi final as well. M Bidyasagar, M Bishorjit, M Kiran and S Somananda scored a goal each for FC Imphal team while the lone for UVSA FC team was scored by W Prabin.
