Narcotics worth Rs 3 lakh seized in Nagaland

Law enforcement authorities in Kiphire district of Nagaland have seized and destroyed narcotics with an estimated value of at least Rs 3 lakh. The operation took place at Deluxe Point, Kiphire town, on September 30, 2023, a delayed report said.

The seized items included marijuana (30 packets), ganja (35 packets), and sunflower drugs (60 packets).

The narcotics were seized through the coordinated efforts of the Kiphire 11 Wards GBs (Gaon Burahs) and others. The operation involved thorough checks at multiple locations within Kiphire town, leading to the recovery of illegal substances, the report added.

In a significant public demonstration of their commitment to eradicating the drug menace, the seized items were incinerated in the presence of the 11 Ward GBs, representatives from the Kiphire Woman Organisation AST and TWA, Tribal Union presidents, Kiphire Town Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KTCCI), and the general public.

The NGOs in Kiphire have issued a stern warning, stating that strict actions will be taken against any individuals involved in the sale of such illegal drugs. They further emphasized that individuals found guilty could face expulsion from the district for a period of upto ten years, the report further added.
