After speeding over 'Squid Game', Yeon's ‘Hellbound’ falls second place on Netflix

'Hellbound' became most watched TV show on Netflix in 24 countries soon after its worldwide release

South Korean thriller-horror film series Hellbound beat Squid Game, also a Korean original, and became the most watched TV show on Netflix in 24 countries soon after its worldwide release on Saturday. However, Arcane raced to top spot the next day, according to sources.

Directed by Yeon Sang-ho, the maker of Train to Busan (2016) fame, Hellbound is based on Hell, a webtoon written and drawn by the director himself.

However, on Sunday, Hellbound moved over and gave way to Arcane, an animated series which is based on ‘League of Legends’, which rose to number one spot, according to the streaming analytics firm FlixPatrol.

Hellbound reveals a glimpse of the "new truth ... something strange" in one of its trailers. According to the show synopsis, unearthly beings deliver bloody condemnations, sending individuals to hell and giving rise to a religious group founded on the idea of divine justice.

Starring Yoo Ah-in, Kim Hyun-joo, Park Jeong-min, Won Jin-ah and Yang Ik-june, Hellbound premiered at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival on September 9. It was released worldwide on November 19.
