After the chief secretary level meeting between Assam and Mizoram on Sunday last, vehicles have started passing along National Highway-306. However, the flow of traffic towards Mizoram is very thin. Till date, only 40 vehicles have reportedly entered Mizoram from Assam along National High-306.

In this regard, the Mizoram government felt that the number of vehicles, which have entered Mizoram from Assam after the chief secretary level meeting of the two states, is very less and not normal. An official of the Mizoram government wondered the reason for it.

On Sunday, the chief secretaries of Assam and Mizoram held a meeting in the presence of Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla through video conferencing.

According to Mizoram Deputy Inspector General of Police (Northern Range) Lalbiakthanga Khiangte, 40 vehicles, including 28 heavy trucks carrying essential commodities, have entered Mizoram from Assam till Tuesday evening. The senior police officer however said that only 3 vehicles entered Mizoram from Assam on Tuesday.

Khiangte then said that a total of 192 vehicles, including 174 heavy trucks have been released from Mizoram and they have already entered Assam till Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile, as announced by the Mizoram government earlier, personnel of BSF have been deployed at Vairengte, Saihapui ‘V’ and Thinghlun villages. These are the most sensitive areas.

On November 8, the Mizoram government had decided to withdraw state security forces from the Assam-Mizoram disputed border area. Instead of the state security forces, the BSF are now stationing in the trouble hit areas.

It can be mentioned here that the border dispute between Mizoram and Assam flared up on October 9 after a farm hut and plantations were damaged on the disputed land near Thinghlun village in west Mizoram’s Mamit district. Since then tension had prevailed along the border with blockade and counter blockade imposed till last Sunday.
