Parshottam Rupala, Union Minister for Fisheries Animal Husbandry and Dairying is scheduled to visit South West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya state on January 9-10, official sources said.
South West Garo Hills lies at the border of Bangladesh. It came into existence as a district of Meghalaya on August 7, 2012. This will be the first time that a Union Cabinet minister will be visiting the border area.
According to the Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Ministry, Rupala will chair a review meeting of different flagship schemes by the Government of India at Ampati, South West Garo Hills alongside with government officials and stakeholders on Monday.
On Tuesday, the minister will be meeting Self Help Groups for Women, Dairy Farmers, and Fisheries Entrepreneurs of the region . He would also be visiting Bangladesh border Haat to interact with border area communities.
