The Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) has asked for the status report from the police on a doctor allegedly molesting two of his patients at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) in Shillong.
“We have asked for the status report from the police to follow up the case and see what can be done,” the chairperson of the commission, Theilin Phanbuh said.
It may be noted here that a doctor at NEIGRIHMS was arrested on June 12 for allegedly molesting two patients.
In a complaint lodged at the Rynjah police station, the two women, who are cousins, alleged that the medical practitioner had molested them when they had gone to his clinic for a check-up.
“We have also received the copy of the FIR filed from the side of the complainants and the Commission will do everything to help the two women,” the chairperson of the women commission said.
The chairperson then stated that they will also advise and refer the two victims to the One Stop Centre at Ganesh Das Hospital for professional counselling.
The chairperson, meanwhile, informed that the One-Stop Centre (OSC) set up by the Government of India, Department of Women and Child Development is present in every district of the State which is equipped with professional counselors and is very workable.
In some cases of domestic violence that came through online during the lockdown and that occurred in places far from the State capital, the Commission will simply refer these cases to the OSC in consultation with the District Social Welfare Officer and work hand in hand to quickly respond to the aggrieved party.
She also said that only during the lockdown period, the Commission has referred more than 10 cases to the OSC.
