The Zeliangrong Union (ZU) Imphal Zone announced that the organisation will deploy volunteers to assist the commuters from the hill areas of Manipur during their visits for the forthcoming Christmas, New Year and Gaan Ngai festival.
The ZU stated in a release that some commuters from the hill areas face various problems on their visit to the city during the festive season, including “pick pocketing, being cheated by businesses who are tempering with the price and quality and other factors contributed by the disadvantage of an unfamiliar city environment”.
Owing to many complaints and suggestion from different quarters to provide some form of assistance for the commuters regarding such problems, ZU Imphal Zone decided to station volunteers in different strategic locations in and around Imphal from December 19 to January 3 in order to assist the people from the hill areas during their visit for the festive seasons, it maintained.
It requested the business community, taxi services and CSOs to extend their cooperation for the sake of a wholesome festive season, it added.
