The Youth Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) on Saturday condemned the alleged inhuman actions against inmates in some of the private de-addiction and rehabilitation centres in Manipur

Pointing out that many inmates have lost their lives as a result of inhuman acts, YFPHR appealed to the government to strictly monitor the mushrooming of drug de-addiction centres and rehabilitation centres in Manipur.

It urged to cancel the registration of the rehabs whichever has been found inappropriate and make them liable for their actions as per the rule of the law.

The youth forum also appealed to the director general of police to book the perpetrators and punish them according to the rule of law in the best interest of the public.

YFPHR also raised serious concerns over how the staffs of the some de-addiction centres threaten the guardians of the users and compel them to keep their wards and children at the centres.

Some of the drug peddlers, youth clubs, Meira paibi, police etc. are also engaged with these privately-run centres to forcefully make the user enrol just to make money out of it, it stated. This has been very unfortunate and needs urgent attention to conduct strict monitoring from the side of the government, it mentioned.
