Ya_All seeks UN support to resolve Manipur crisis

Ya_All on Tuesday sought support of the United Nations to take stock of the prevailing crisis in Manipur, urging for relief and peacebuilding, to help minimise further crisis and loss of property, lives and integrity.

Ya_All founder Sadam Hanjabam submitted a nine-point memorandum to United Nations secretary general’s Envoy on Youth, Jayathma Wickramanayake, requesting to intervene in relief and peacebuilding in Manipur during the 16th session of the Conference of States Parties to the CRPD (COSP16) held at United Nations Headquarters, New York, a release stated.

The points in the memorandum include rapid action and initiation of relief services, resettlement and rehabilitation of the displaced and affected populations; prioritising peacebuilding through dialogues with peacekeepers, government, CSOs, military and militants; strengthening skills and expertise of local voluntary and community organisations of the state for reconciliation process and crisis minimisation to avoid future clashes, it said.

It noted that children, adolescents and youths are hugely impacted by the crisis, adding that they have a high probability of developing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSDs). It also highlighted the plights facing lactating mothers and infants in the relief camps as well as queer and transgender individuals and people living with disabilities owing to the prevailing humanitarian crisis.

It also stressed the need for unrestricted care and support of people living with HIV and individuals in the recovery journey. It also requested for intervention in lifting the internet ban considering the plights facing students, professionals and organisations etc.

Ya_All also launched a crowdfunding initiative which supported over 5000 vulnerable youths and displaced persons above, conducting mental health and physical camps to support the affected victims of the crisis, it mentioned. A similar copy of the memorandum was also submitted to UNICEF, International Disability Alliance, Transforming Communities for Inclusion, UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, it added.
