Meiteis from Lakhipur Khuman, Cachar on Saturday asserted that they would continue to coordinate with CSOs in Manipur and dispense necessary measures to tackle the present crisis in Manipur.
The six-member team from Assam further highlighted that the team during their week-long visit to Manipur had made several donations at various relief camps in the valley.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul Wangkheimayum Niladhaja from Lakhipur Khuman, Assam pointed out that the team under the guidance of village leaders had to come to Manipur to help the people affected by the crisis.
“All villagers from Lakhipur Khuman contributed whatever they had for their brethren in Manipur; therefore, the teams have visited and made donations at several relief camps in the valley,” he said.
He reiterated that the Meiteis of Lakhipur Assam would continue to extend necessary support and coordinate with civil society organisations in Manipur to resolve the present crisis in the state.
Meanwhile, socio-political commentator P Sonamani lauded the goodwill gesture of the Manipuris settled in Assam and stated that such actions reminded the people of the inseparable bond between the Meiteis in Assam and Manipur.
“Although we were separated by circumstances, such actions awakened the inseparable bond between the two states and its people,” he said.
He expressed gratitude to the team for their visit and exuded confidence that such gestures during the crisis would strengthen the bond for posterity.
