World Hepatitis Day 2023: Manipur Health minister calls for full commitment to achieve 2030 target

Government planning to prepare data of liver cirrhosis patients in Manipur, says Health and Family Welfare and Information and Public Relations Minister Dr S Ranjan Singh.

World Hepatitis Day 2023 was observed in Manipur amid unrest with the call for full commitment to the sustainable development goal of eradicating Hepatitis by 2030.

Speaking as Chief Guest at the occasion, Health and Family Welfare and Information and Public Relations Minister Dr S Ranjan Singh called upon all health professional and staff to work towards the government's sustainable development goal to eradicate Hepatitis by 2030, with full commitment.

"Every health professional and staff need to shoulder responsibility and extend mutual coordination to achieve the target. We also need to work with full commitment," he said.

The event was held under the theme “One Life One Liver” at Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong, Imphal. It was jointly organised by the National Health Mission, Manipur and Directorate of Health Services, Manipur.

Pointing out that consumption of adulterated alcohol is also one of the factors for causing liver infection in the state, the minister said, "The ill effects of adulterated alcohols should be understood by alcohol users. Liver is one of the most important organs of a person."

Dr Ranjan also said that the government is planning to prepare data of liver cirrhosis patients in the state.

Saying that awareness on Hepatitis is required through which the disease may be controlled, he called upon different departments in the health sector to coordinate with one another.

The minister then lauded the role of health professionals during the present crisis period.

PK Jha, commissioner/secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Manipur, H Rosita Devi, project director, Manipur State AIDS Control Society, Dr Somorjit Ningombam, SMD, NHM, Manipur and Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, director, RIMS attended the occasion as functional president and guests of Honour respectively. Official and staffs from the Health department and NHM, Manipur and others also attended the function.
