Women Action for Development lauds High Court’s directive

WAD also hopes that survivors and families of crimes against women will now get justice.

Women Action for Development (WAD) on Friday lauded the Manipur High Court single bench Justice MV Muralidaran's direction to the chief secretary and DGP Manipur to make appropriate arrangement for creation of a separate wing in the police department to deal with the cases of crime against women and children in the state.

WAD has been working for women and children for the last many years and it has been voicing for a separate law and order and investigation team, a release stated. The organisation could see the rise in crimes against women in the state and numerous pending cases, it stated. This step taken up by the high court is a good sign to bring about justice to survivors of crimes against women and children and victims’ families, it added.

WAD also hopes that survivors and families of crimes against women will now get justice, as well as compensation schemes, will be released timely when in need as many survivors’ monetary compensation is still pending for the release till date, it stated.  

It further stated that WAD also appreciates the direction given to DGP by justice MV Muralidaran to submit a comprehensive report in the registration of cases of crime against women and children along with the cases related to POCSO in the state for the period of 2005-2020.  The organisation is looking forward to the positive changes after such types of initiatives will be executed by the police department, it added.

WAD also extends its appreciation to various print and electronic media for covering extensive exclusive news and issues related to crime against women and children, it stated. The organisation is optimistic that such types of changes will bring about the much necessary changes needed in society, it added.
