Stating that the state government has withdrawn from the tripartite talks with the Kuki militants, the Manipur Shiv Sena on Saturday questioned why the Centre was still in talks.

Manipur Shiv Sena president M Tombi said the state government, who was also a part of the tripartite talk, has already withdrawn from the talk after pressure from the people of Manipur and witnessing Kuki militants, who are under suspension of operation (SoO), violating the ground rules.

Further stating that the present crisis of Manipur has become an international issue, he questioned why the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were still a mute spectator.

Will the mere Rs 10 lakh compensation be able to replace the life of people of both communities who lost their lives in the recent violence, Tombi questioned.

The state Shiv Sena welcomed the 31 MLAs’ demand to the central government for withdrawal of SoO agreement and the party, along with other political parties included in Manipur Democratic Alliance, will also be submitting similar memorandum to the central government, he added.

Tombi said over 50,000 central forces have been deployed in Manipur in connection with the ongoing clash however, they are not able to control law-and-order in the hills. It is the legal right of the Meitei community to demand scheduled tribe status, Tombi asserted.

The initiatives of the state government to save the next generation by uprooting drugs and destruction of poppy plantations is the welfare of the entire people of Manipur. The people of Manipur will never negotiate with Chin-Kuki tribes, he said.

Tombi appealed to the central government not to remain a mute spectator and those MLAs other than the 31 MLAs should clarify to the public why they were not included in signing the memorandum.
