War on Drugs 2.0: 890 grams of opium seized, one arrested

The arrested person, along with the seized item, has been handed over to Porompat police station for further necessary legal action.

In continuation of the police’s activity under “War on Drugs 2.0”, Imphal East district police on Sunday seized opium and arrested one drug peddler along Tinsid road near the southern side of Kombirei Garden.

The arrested person has been identified as Mutum Thoiba Meitei, 43, son of (L) M Achou Meitei of Nongpok Senjenbam, Imphal East.

Police said based on a specific input the police team led by Kh Devkumar Singh, OC, narcotic cell, Imphal East and assisted by ASI Tamijur Rahman along with volunteers of Youth Athletic Development Association (YADA), under the supervision of Superintendent of Police, Imphal East, M Pradip Singh conducted frisking and checking along TInsid road near Kombirei garden at around 10 pm of Saturday.

During the frisking, Thoiba, who was coming on a scooter bearing registration number MN01L-5717, was detained.

On examination of the vehicle, 890 grams of opium was detected from his possession. A mobile phone was also seized from his possession and Thoiba was arrested on the spot.

The arrested person, along with the seized item, has been handed over to Porompat police station for further necessary legal action.
