Two persons in possession of 809 grams of suspected heroin powder were arrested by a combined team of commando unit of Kakching police as a part of War on Drugs 2.0 on Thursday, sources said.
According to the sources, a combined team of commando unit of Kakching led by OC of commando unit Kakching inspector Md Abash Khan along with another team of commando led by sub Ksh Prakash Singh under the supervision of additional SP (Ops) Kakching Binoy Chongtham and under the overall supervision of SP Kakching police Binoy Shrey Vats seized the items from a four wheeler (Vitara Brezza- MN06L 8880) coming from Pallel.
It informed that when the police team tried to stop the vehicle it tried to escape by speeding past the checkpoint. But the team managed to stop the vehicle and detained the driver and the occupant, it continued.
It mentioned that the detained individuals were identified as Naoba Takhellambam, 36, son of Takhellambam Iboyai Meitei from Haotak Tampak Khunao Makha Leikai, Wangoo Keirap in Bishnupur district A/P Chikim Village, Moreh, and Lhingchin Kipgen, 46, wife of Nehkolam Kipgen from Zalenphai part II Moreh in Tengnoupal district.
The team conducted a search and seizure by observing necessary legal formalities and found 65 soap cases containing suspected heroin powders, it informed. The items weighed around 809 grams, it added. The police team arrested the two individuals and seized the items, it continued.
The arrested individuals along with the seized items were handed over to Kakching police OC for further necessary legal actions, it added.
Meanwhile, a combined team of Lilong police station along with local anti-drug organisations ALADA and ANJUMAN seized 20 soap cases containing suspected heroin around 6 pm on Wednesday.
According to sources, the seized items weighed around 242 grams. It informed that the team seized the items from one Md Mukhilish Juddin, 25, son of Md Islamuddin from Moreh ward no 9 A/P Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai.
The team arrested the individual by observing necessary formalities, it continued.
Based on Md Mukhilish’s disclosure, four other individuals who were involved in the transaction of the illegal items were also arrested, it stated.
The arrested individuals were Md Habib, 25, son of Md Sahid from Sangaiyumpham Mairenkhul; Md Yusuf Ali, 21, son of Najir Ahemad from Sora Mayai Leikai; Md Ajish Khan, 23, son of Md Ajijur Rahaman from Sora Mayai Leikai; and Md Najir Ahemad alias Abocha, 32, son of Md Ibocha from Sora bazaar, it mentioned.
A four-wheeler vehicle (Eeco van-MNOIAS 5502), and a two-wheeler vehicle (Suzuki Burgman 125) which were used in facilitating the drug dealing business were seized from their possession, it informed.
The police filed a regular case under FIR No - 68(10)2022 Lilong PS, u/s 21(c)/60(3)/29, ND&PS Act for further investigation, it added.
