Two arrested with 437 grams of heroin powder in Kakching district

The accused persons have been remanded into police custody for eight days by the court for further investigation, a police source said.

The Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) police station on Friday seized 437 grams of heroin powder from Sugnu Bazar area, Kakching district and arrested two individuals.

NAB police said the two individuals were apprehended during a random frisking and checking conducted by the NAB as a part of continuous war on drugs. 

They are identified as Lhingneichin Haokip, 35, wife of Thanjalet Haokip from Waithou Village, Chandel district and Lelen Haokip, 40, son of late Athang Haokip from M B Jangnom Village, Kakching district.

During verification, it is revealed that the two arrested persons are a part of an international smuggling chain and the seized heroin powder was handed over to them by a person in Myanmar, said a police source.

Some leads on the linkage are established but the full particulars and addresses of the associates are yet to be established, police mentioned.

In coonection to it, a regular case has been registered with NAB police station and the accused persons are remanded to police custody for eight days by the court for further investigation.
