A three-day training programme on dementia care organised by National Institute of Social Defence (NISD) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India in collaboration with IRDEO,Regional Resource and Training Centre,( AG) NE at the cultural hall of IRDEO, Wangbal, Thoubal district concluded on Thursday.
Programme officer, IRDEO, RR and TC, (AG) NE Ishwaree Oinam said that the training programme, which started on Tuesday was conducted with an aim for timely prevention of dementia among elderly people.
“We may prevent and control dementia if signs and symptoms shown are detected earlier,” she told reporters.
She said that IRDEO has been organising such training programmes on dementia since 2011. Half of the target set by the organisation has been achieved so far, she said. The role of a caregiver on nursing a dementia patient is highly important, she added.
Three specialist doctors spoke on different topics on dementia and its care on the concluding day. They are medical officer, district hopsital Chandel Dr Gilvert Sunpi; medical officer, PHC Oinam Dr Pritam Laishram and senior consultant surgeon and anti aging specialist, Sky Hospital and Research Centre, Imphal Dr Kh Shantikumar.
More than 20 trainees attended the three-day training programme.
