A fire which reportedly broke out at Viewland in the heart of Ukhrul town gutted three shops on Tuesday night. No casualties and injuries were reported during the incident.
Sources said that the fire started around 9.30 pm from among one of the three second hand shops. “Short circuit is alleged to have triggered the fire,” sources added.
The Shop owners reportedly faced loss in tune of lakhs. Ninety per cent of the clothes, including the new bales of second hand clothes they had recently bought and stored in their shops were all burnt down.
The three second hand shops are owned by one Ramyao Maluksho from Poi, Flora Yangya from Paorei and Honsanphi Rungsung from Zingsho village respectively.
Following the incident, Ukhrul fire brigade along with police and Assam Rifles swiftly rushed to the spot.
The timely intervention from the fire fighters, police personnel, Assam Rifles and the general public made it possible to put out the fire and prevented it from spreading further to other shops.
