A fire broke out at a tailoring cum grocery shop along Thoubal River at Khekman Wangmataba Makha leikai under Thoubal Police Station at around 2.30 am on Saturday, destroying goods worth Rs 10 lakh.
According to sources, the tailoring cum grocery shop belonged to one Ahanthem Sunder, 45, son of Ibohal from Khekman Wangmataba Makha leikai. It stated that the fire had been suspected to have originated from an electric short circuit.
The fire was discovered at around 4 am by some boys on their way to play badminton, but the fire had already burned down most of the shop, it added.
In the fire, properties including four tailoring machines, goods for sale and client’s items which had been estimated to be around Rs 10 lakh in total had been burned down, it mentioned.
Meanwhile, ward member of Khekman Gram Panchayat Sanasam Tomba drew the attention of the state government to provide support and financial assistance for Ahanthem Sunder and his family including his two children at the time of crisis.
