The 41st Foundation Day of Lamman Thang-Ta, an institute which imparts knowledge of ancient Manipuri martial arts, was observed at Tera Loukhram Leirak, Imphal on Thursday.
On the occasion, principal of the institute Chungkham Sunil Kumar stressed the need for youths to understand the intrinsic relation between human beings and Thang-ta.
“We must strive to preserve and promote the ancient knowledge of Thang-ta,” he said.
He noted that the traditional and ancient knowledge of Manipuri martial arts would become extinct if well-read scholars and teachers of the art did not pass it down properly.
“Thang-ta embodies significant values and meanings which accompany human existence beginning from birth till death,” he said.
He further added that respect for elders, human beings and all living creatures is also part of the core values in Thang-ta.
During the observation, floral tributes were also paid to images of deceased Thang-ta teachers.
