As many as 661 grams of suspected Heroin No 4 powder were detected and seized while two persons were arrested by teams of Kakching Police at around 1.10 pm on Tuesday.
The detection and seizure was carried out by HC Starson Tarao and assisted by HC L Rohit Singh under the command of OC, CDO Unit, Kakching inspector Md Abash Khan under the supervision of additional SP (Ops) Kakching Binoy Chongtham and under the overall supervision of superintendent of Police, Kakching Shrey Vats.
According to police, one Maruti Gypsy vehicle bearing no registration coming from Pallel side at the Leimanai Chingjin CDO check-post was intercepted by the said team.
The driver and the other occupant of the vehicle were detained for verification. They were identified as one Lunkhojang Touthang, 40, son of Jamkhoson Touthang from TV Gamnomphai Village, Tengnoupal, presently residing at T Monglen Village Chandel and Thangjamang Touthang, 34, son of Jamkholen Touthang of Moltuk Village, Moltuk Chandel.
The two persons along with the said vehicle were searched after observing legal formalities. From their vehicle, a total of 50 soap cases containing suspected Heroin No.4 powder were detected. The soap cases were found concealed in a specially designed chamber below the chassis of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle and its occupant were arrested by observing all formalities.
On weighing, the suspected drugs were found to weigh approximately 661 grams.
The arrested person and the seized articles were handed over to OC, Kakching Police Station for taking up further necessary legal action.
