Joint tribe students association of Zeme, Liangmai, Inpui, and Rongmei observed that the “dominant community” in Lilong assembly constituency residing around Chingkham Kabul allegedly taking the law into their own hands in connection with the setting up of a Police Outpost at Chingkham Kabui Village on November 3.
In a statement, secretary Masenbou condemned the action of “taking the law into their hands against the minority community of the area.”
Joint tribe student association anticipated a gentle treatment from a dominant community for peaceful co-existence even in the future, he stated.
According to the statement, the residents of Chingkham Kabui Village were openly threatened with stern warning that their houses will be dismantled after the fences were forcibly removed by members of Lilong Chingkham Maya Development Organisation led by its general secretary Md Aslam Khan, son of Md Khalilur Rahman while the residents of Chingkham Kabui Village watched the vandalism helplessly.
Timely arrival and intervention of Police led by SP Thoubal and OC Lilong Police station at the spot to calm down the tension is highly laudable and such unbiased service to the public is anticipated even in the future, he stated.
"We are concerned with the way minority community-Kabui villagers are treated in that way by the dominant majority community of the Lilong Area despite historical facts, administrative and Court orders and rulings in favour of the Chingkham Kabui Village,” he stated.
The November 3 incident was one among many such incidents committed upon Chingkham Kabui Village by the majority community of the area which is in total violation of the law of the land, he added.
Claims made by Lilong Chingkham Maya Development Organisation in connection to Chingkham Kabui Village are without any proof and evidence and this should be stopped at the larger interest of the people and for peaceful co-existence within the communities now and in the future, he further stated.
“JTSA will not remain a mute spectator on this issue and we further appeal to the Government of Manipur,” he stated in the statement.
The joint association demanded the government to take stringent action against all individuals, leaders and organisations which try to create communal tensions which would disturb the peaceful co-existence, he added.
He also demanded the construction of the Chingkham Police Outpost at the earliest in a time bound manner.
He demanded to construct a boundary line with fencing/identity marks surrounding Chingkham village, so that any encroachment of village land in future can be prevented. He also demanded to deploy round the clock additional police personnel at the Chingkham Kabui village to prevent tensions and protect from any encroachments/threat/illegal activities by the surrounding miscreants upon minority Kabui (Rongmei) community.
