The Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee of Manipur (STDCM) on Sunday submitted a memorandum to the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency MP (LS) Lorho S Pfoze, demanding the inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the Scheduled Tribe list.
A release issued by the STDCM stated that as part of the organisation’s ongoing movement for the inclusion of the Meitei/Meetei community in the ST list, STDCM had submitted a memorandum to the ministers and MLAs of the state.
A delegation of STDCM led by president Dhiraj Yumnam visited MP Lorho S Pfoze at his quarter in Lamphel and handed over the memorandum, it added. “The memorandum mentioned that the Meitei community which is an indigenous community of Manipur fulfills the criteria required to be included in the ST list. In order to save the Meitei from becoming a minority and living like a refugee in their own land, STDCM demanded the inclusion of Meitei in the ST list,” it stated.
The memorandum also condemned All Students' Union of Manipur (ATSUM) for protesting against STDCM’s demand and drew the attention of the MP on the same, it maintained.
If any individual or entity has any queries or grievances concerning the issue of reservation quota, the issue can be discussed and resolved in an appropriate manner with the government, it stated.
An apt policy in the likeness of those implemented in the neighbouring states, including Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland can also be discussed for Manipur as well, it added.
