Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has been urged to start construction of the Sangai Heritage Park at Keibul by a Demand Committee, saying locals of Keibul in Bishnupur district are ready to donate their paddy field in Khangjai Ngamba area to the state government.
The Demand Committee on the construction of Sangai Heritage Park at Keibul was adressing mediapersons at Manipur Press Club in Imphal on Tuesday.
Experts are of the view that the construction of the park at the Khangjai Ngamba area in Keibul will not cause disturbance to Sangai and its habitat, committee vice-president N Renubala said while speaking to the media.
Chief Minister N Biren himself had announced multiple times of constructing the Sangai Ethnic Park at Keibul, she said, adding the government is, however, trying to construct the park in another location which is about five to six kilometer away from Keibul Lamjao.
The statement of the chief minister on the floor of the House to construct the Sangai Heritage Park at Moirang Khunou is against his assurance given to the villagers of Keibul on many occasions, she added.
Informing that a series of agitations have been taken up in demand for the construction of the park at Keibul, the vice-president said that the villagers are ready to negotiate the upcoming agitations if the government starts the park construction work at Keibul.
