ST Demand: Meitei diaspora urged to take part in global miss call campaign

The Miss Call Campaign to ramp up the demand for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the ST list will continue till December 20.

Four Meitei bodies on Saturday made a clarion call to all Manipuri diaspora across the globe to participate in the Miss Call Campaign to ramp up the demand for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the ST list.

“We urge all Meiteis living in India and across the world to take part in the campaign so that the demand gains more traction,” the bodies stated. The campaign kicked off from November 20 and will continue till December 20.

Speaking to the media at Meitei Tribe Union office, Imphal, secretary (Administration) of the union Mutum Churamani highlighted that the four Meitei bodies namely Salai Kanba Lup, Kangleipak Kanba Lup, Meitei Tribe Union and World Meitei Council had taken up various initiatives for the demand since long back.

The miss call campaign is one among such initiatives, he added. He sought the support of people of all ages and all valley based CSOs to aid in making the campaign successful.

This is a fight to save the entire Meitei community, and we need as much support as possible to win this fight, he added. He pointed out that hitting 5 lakh miss calls was the primary target of the campaign which was achievable based on the total Meitei populace.

Meanwhile, state unit president of World Meitei Council Urikhimbam Kunjo maintained that the movement for the demand was crucial as it could seal the fate of the Meitei community.
“The future would be treacherous if we do not push for the demand starting now,” he said. He sought the support of Meiteis in all walks of life to aid in striving for the demand.
