Pointing out that maximum buildings of educational institutions, offices, sport complex and markets, hostels and its washrooms do not have wheelchair facilities, the State Platform for Disable People's Organisation (SPDPO), Manipur on Thursday drew the attention of the state government for full-fledged implementation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
The SPDPO also demanded a state level tournament for the disabled persons and construction of a separate indoor stadium for the PwDs as there is not a single ground in the state for the PwDs to practice despite having numerous sportspersons among PwDs.
Speaking to the media at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal, SPDPO president Md Yunus Khan said if the RPWD Act is implemented in full swing, none of the PwDs in the state will suffer.
He highlighted that under this Act there are certain benefits which a PwDs can enjoy, such as Grand in Aids, skill development programme, reservations and others.
Alleging that some vested interest groups and individuals are using the name of disable for raising funds, he appealed to the government and CSOs not to support such groups or individuals and instead take up action against them.
The president also announced the establishment of "Manipur Hill District Disable Union" which will be a subsidiary unit of SPDPO, during the press conference.
