Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Saturday said the evacuation mission for Indians from Ukriane has begun and six Manipuri students are on their way to Romania in a specially arranged bus.
“I’m happy to share that the evacuation mission for Indians from Ukraine has already begun. Among the Indians who are being evacuated from Ukraine, 6 Manipuri students are on their way to Romania in a specially arranged bus, at the moment. Earlier, 12 Manipuri students have already been evacuated,” the chief minister said in a Facebook page.
The chief minister also said that the Manipur government is constantly in touch with the Centre to ensure the safe return of Manipuris stranded in war-hit Ukraine.
“With the prevailing condition, the state govt is constantly in touch with PMO, MEA and other concerned ministries to assess the condition of every Manipuri, especially the students who are stranded in Ukraine,” Biren said in another Facebook post.
On Friday, as several students from Manipur studying at various universities in Ukraine remained stranded, worried parents and guardians of 11 students appealed to Union minister RK Ranjan Singh to ensure their safe return to the country. The parents and guardians of the stranded students submitted an appeal letter to the minister on Friday.
The letter also mentioned the list of the Manipuri students stranded in war-hit Ukraine, awaiting immediate evacuation.
“We have collected the list of all the Manipuri students who are studying in Ukraine. The Govt, of India is taking all measures to ensure the safety of the students and bring them back safely to India,” the chief minister said.
Russia, on February 24 morning, launched "full-scale invasion" in Ukraine.
