The All Kangleipak Students Union (AKSU) condemned the shifting of Manipur University of Culture (MUC) campus from the Government Music and Dance College, Palace Compound to New Light Public School, Canchipur.
The union also appealed to the MUC authority to make a concrete decision to conclude the six-month long agitation that was carried out in connection with admission in the university.
A release signed by AKSU publicity secretary, Th Ramesh Meitei said that the agitation was going on since last six months for not allowing admission for MA courses in MUC. The agitation was carried out by students who have diploma degrees and graduated from the state recognised Music and Dance College and Jawaharlal Nehru Manipuri Dance Academy (JNMDA).
Amid the problem that has not been solved completely, shifting of MUC from its previous premise is highly condemnable, it added.
It said that when the present vice-chancellor of MUC was the head of department of Dance and Music in Manipur University (MU), students graduated from state dance and music colleges were accepted for masters in MU. The norms are applicable in all the universities, however no acceptance of state students in MUC is very unfortunate.
MUC is established in the state due to the presence of Music and Dance College and JNMDA. Forgetting the essence of the old academies after the varsity came into being is not acceptable. The ongoing issue should be settled at the earliest by disclosing the concrete decision taken up by authorities concerned to wind up the agitation, the release said.
