Sexual Assault Case 2014: Man sentenced to 10-year jail

The court directed the state government to grant compensation of Rs 8 lakh to the victim of the 2014 sexual assault case in Manipur.

An accused in a sexual assault case has been convicted and sentenced to 10-year rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 5,000 in Bishnupur district, Manipur. 

Ch Brajachand, Special Judge of Special Fast Track Court No 2, convicted 38-year-old Arambam Robindro of Bishnupur Maning Leikai under section 6 of POCSO Act for committing aggravated sexual assault on a minor girl on October 26, 2014.

Arambam Robindro, who was in judicial custody, was produced before the court.

Arambam was arrested following the complaint lodged by the victim's mother at Imphal West women police station.

The mother claimed that her daughter was sexually assaulted by the convict in the bedroom of a school quarter on October 26, 2014.

The court stated that the period of detention during investigation and trial is set off against the term of imprisonment as provided under section 428 CrPC, as he was in detention in police custody as well as in judicial custody since September 29, 2014 till December 29, 2022.

The court also directed the state government to grant compensation of Rs 8 lakh to the victim from the victim compensation fund.
