'Send the sick to hospitals, not faith healers’

“Do not fear to undergo operations. Doctors are God’s gift to man to treat his people. We should pray and do the operation to get good eyesight.”

Tamenglong deputy commissioner L Angshim Dangsha on Saturday urged all not to mislead the illiterate and innocent people by telling them to go to faith-healers and shamans when they are sick.

He was speaking during felicitation to the free mega eye camp at District Hospital Duigailong Tamenglong. Chief medical officer Dr G Majachunglu, medical superintendent of district hospital Dr Guidiathiu Kamei, District Hospital Tamenglong Ophthalmologist Dr Reikhongul Rangla attended the felicitation programme.

L Angshim Dangsha further stated that faith healing is still practiced in far-flung areas and villages, while urging them to go to the hospital instead.

“Do not fear to undergo operations. Doctors are God’s gift to man to treat his people. We should pray and do the operation to get good eyesight,” he said.  

He also thanked all the doctors team who had taken trouble to treat the poor people in the district.

He further informed that in order to do operation, machines are required for which the district administration is procuring the machines. Once the machine arrives, eye operation can be conducted rotation wise without organising mega eye camps. Machineries are arriving in a few months, he added.

In her welcome address, chief medical officer Dr G Majachunglu stated that Tamenglong district hospital has eye specialists. Any eye problem can be checked at any time, she said.  
She said that the free mega eye camp was organised to control blindness, especially the elderly persons.

She informed them that the chief minister had launched a special scheme to care for the eye. Vehicles with well equipped tools were launched to go to village level, she added.

She also thanked all the doctors who are involved in making the free mega eye camp successful.

It may be mentioned that a two-day mega eye surgery began at Duigailong Tamenglong District Hospital organised by District health Society Tamenglong under National Programme for control of blindness.

Free eye surgery camp was led by JNIMS assistant professor Ophthalmologist Dr Anthony Kamson and others.
