Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday strongly condemned the killing of two persons, including a worker of Agriculture Minister O Lukhoi, at Samurou under Wangoi Police Station in Imphal West.
CM Biren said that it was an attack on the BJP supporters, and the government will not remain silent until the perpetrator is arrested.
Condemning the incident, the chief minister along with Lukhoi, who is the BJP intending candidate Wangoi assembly constituency, visited the victims' families on Monday morning to extend their condolences.
“If there were enmities, they could have shot the persons in the arm or legs as a form of punishment. An opportunity must be given to them to make their clarifications at least. This was rather, a direct attack to the victims by the perpetrators,” Lukhoi said.
One Abujam John, an active worker of Agricultural Minister Lokhoi and Sashikanta, a Havildar of IRB, were shot at by unidentified persons near Machu Cinema Hall at Samurou, located along Mayai Lambi Road, around 10 pm Sunday, police sources said.
John was rushed to Advance Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries around 10.30 pm on Sunday night. Sashikanta was reported dead around 5 am after undergoing an operation at Raj Medicity on Monday, the police said.
The bodies have been taken to RIMS Mortuary, police said, adding that they found three empty cases of 9 mm rounds from the spot where the incident took place.
