Road construction work on National Highway 102-B to resume: Transport Minister Vungzagin Valte

A major chunk of the road construction may be finished before the rainy season, Transport Minister Vungzagin Valte said on Sunday.

The ban imposed on road construction of National Highway 102-B by  'Affected Chiefs’ Association of the highway will be lifted by Monday and work will resume, Transport Minister Vungzagin Valte said on Sunday.

A major chunk of the road construction may be finished before the rainy season, he said during a press meet held after holding a meeting with the district administration, NHIDCL and the ‘Affected Chiefs’ Association of NH 102 B’ which had halted the construction of the National Highway.

He said that compensations will soon be cleared and the new survey reports should be tabled in a week’s time.

In regards to road widening in the town, starting from Tuibong bridge to Lanva bridge, the minister said that the chief minister of Manipur agreed to widen the road for 25 meters, he mentioned. For this, a survey will be carried out by the authority concerned including NHIDLC. Reports will be made in this regard as soon as possible, he said.

Regarding the COVID-19 resistance efforts in the hills district of Manipur, the minister said that under the initiative of chief minister N Biren Singh, six hill districts namely Churachandpur, Chandel, Kangpokpi, Ukhrul,Tamenglong  and Sanapati will soon have oxygen plants which will produce 200 oxygen cylinders each in a day.

They will hopefully function in a 60-day time for which funds are sanctioned under TA and Hills, he said. It was also approved that one big ambulance, fitted with all life support equipment and two smaller ambulances, will be provided to the hills districts with an initiative from the CM.

In regards to the COVID 19 control mechanism, the minister supported the idea of an assembly constituency wise Village Task force in all hills districts.

The meeting was also attended by Churachandpur DC Pawan Yadav, NHIDCL official and leaders from the affected chiefs’ association.
