The order was issued in pursuance of a press note issued by the Election Commission of India in exercise of powers conferred under Section 20(2)(a) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, said the order issued by chief secretary Rajesh Kumar.

Road shows are also allowed with prior permission of the district authorities, it said, adding all other restrictions, except the relaxations mentioned above, will continue to be in force.

The ECI ordered the relaxation after considering the fact that the numbers of COVID case have fallen in poll bound states and taking into account the need of the political parties and candidates, the ECI said.
