The Communist Party of India (CPI) Manipur State Council on Saturday claimed that the repealing of three farm laws is a victory for farmers and a defeat of the BJP government.

In a press conference held at its Irawat Bhawan office on Saturday,  state secretary, CPI-MSC, L Sotinkumar said that the repealing of three farms law after farmers from across the nation conducted an intense movement was a great victory and a defeat to the Modi led BJP government.

The government repealed the laws with the fear of losing votes in poll bound states like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa, he said. The people witnessed how the BJP was defeated in some states where the election was recently concluded, he added.

He also said that though the government took the decision to withdraw them, they still need to take responsibility for around 700 farmers who had lost their lives and many who had been injured during the movement. The BJP government should provide compensation for those farmers, he maintained.

Sotinkumar said that though the government has resolved to repeal the law, the Sanjukta Kishan Morcha has decided not to withdraw their movement until a new system is presented. The decision of the farmers' association will be supported by CPI-MSC, he said.

Mentioning that there are some other Acts which are undemocratic, he demanded to repeal the Citizen Amendment Bill (CAB) and the National Register of Citizenship (NRC).

He continued that the Central trade union is planning to organise a nationwide protest against the price rise and unemployment issues from November 26 to December 6. CPI-MSC will fully endorse the movement, he said.

Spokesperson, CPI-MSC RK Amusana recalled the claim made by Biren led BJP government that the Inner Line Permit was implemented by the Central government because of its concerns for Manipur.
