Rainbow Literature Festival 2023 was held in New Delhi on December 9 and 10.

Transgender rights activist and writer Santa Khurai and filmmaker and actor Priyakanta Laishram represented Manipur at the Rainbow Literature Festival 2023 in New Delhi on December 9 and 10 respectively.

The festival aimed to provide a platform for thought-provoking discussions on love and the law, social hierarchies and identities, mythology, literature, culture, and the intersection of queer rights and feminism, stated a release on Saturday.

Priyakanta made a significant impact during the panel discussion titled ‘Homes and Families’, where he shared his journey as a queer individual growing up in Manipur, it said. He also highlighted the power of his films like ‘Who Said Boys Can’t Wear Makeup?’, ‘The Foul Truth’ and ‘Oneness’ in expressing his ideas and emotions, it mentioned.

While Santa Khurai unveiled her memoir book, ‘The Yellow Sparrow’, which delves into the numerous challenges and struggles she faced as a transgender woman throughout her life at the festival, it stated. She also participated in the panel discussion titled ‘Of Trans Lives,

Depiction, Rights and Understanding’ and shared invaluable insights and experiences, it added.

The festival featured an impressive line-up of over 60 speakers, entertainers, and performers with approximately thirty sessions covering a wide range of topics, the release said.
