As the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly first phase began early Monday, February 28, amid high tension and tight security arrangements, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon all to turn out in record numbers and exercise their franchise.
"Urging all those voting today in the first phase of the Manipur Assembly elections to turnout in record numbers and cast their vote. I particularly call upon the young and first time voters to exercise their franchise," Modi tweeted.

Manipur Governor La Ganesan was the first to cast vote as the polling booths opened for the first phase of the Manipur Polls 2022.
As he cast his vote at the Model Polling Station 11-Sagolband Assembly Constituency 11/34-TG Higher Secondary School at around 7.15 am, the governor appealed to all legitimate voters in the state to exercise their voting rights fully.
