Police Commando must be removed from hill areas: KSO

The Kuki students' apex body said that KSO Sadar Hills general secretary Thangtinlen Haokip was assaulted by Manipur police commando at Kalapahar in Kangpokpi District on March 3 at around 1:00 am without any reason.

The KSO general headquarters strongly demanded the removal of Commando in the hill areas at once, while condemning the alleged assault on KSO Sadar Hills general secretary by Manipur police commando on March 3 at Kalapahar.

The Kuki students' apex body said that KSO Sadar Hills general secretary Thangtinlen Haokip was assaulted by Manipur police commando at Kalapahar in Kangpokpi District on March 3 at around 1:00 am without any reason.

It also stated that Haokip was monitoring the construction work of the student body's administrative office building at Kangpokpi District Headquarters which went on till late at night on March 3.

The police commando personnel also attempted to throw away the KSO’s flag which was inside the vehicle of KSO Sadar Hills General Secretary while questioning in a very disrespectful manner as to how big is KSO and civil society organizations, it added.

It also stated that such act and statement made by the police commando itself is another misuse of power while pointing out that the frisking and the assault of KSO Sadar Hills General Secretary, Thangtinlen Haokip was led by Addl.SP of Imphal West at Kalapahar which is under Kangpokpi district.

How could a reputed officer in uniform make a communal statement by underestimating the student's organization, asked the KSO-GHQs while adding that at least they need to show respect to their service uniform as they are trained officers.

Demanding stringent and appropriate action upon the commando personnel involved in the assault of KSO Sadar Hills General Secretary on that particular night along with Addl.SP Imphal West, KSO General Headquarters asked all security forces present in the hill areas to stop assaulting innocent civilians and civil society organizations leaders without any valid reason.

It further strongly demanded that taking advantage of the general assembly election and the presence of police commandos in the hill area should be stopped at once.

KSO General Headquarters questioned Kangpokpi District police over the presence of Manipur police commando and asked whether their presence is with their knowledge or not.

It also stated that until fresh order from the state Government, the prevailing order should be respected.
