PAWF observes Arambam Samarendra’s death anniversary

The Patriotic Writers Forum, Manipur on Saturday paid floral tribute to writer Arambam Samarendra on his death anniversary held at Nungshikol Park in Imphal East.

The Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF), Manipur on Saturday observed the death anniversary of writer Arambam Samarendra and paid floral tribute at a memorial event held at Nungshikol Park in Lamlai assembly constituency, Imphal East.

PAWF stated in a release that the event was attended by its president Naoroibam Khamba Luwang, vice president Sobita Mongjam, secretary Rakesh Naorem, founder secretary OC Meira along with its life members, S Lakpati, S Premlata, Sangita Thounaojam and Naorem Romila and social worker Chana Lembi.

PAWF secretary Rakesh Naorem stated that Arambam Samarendra was a multi-faceted personality. Although he is remembered by many for his many endeavours, PAWF remembers him as a visionary literature warrior, he added.

Some of Samaremdra’s acclaimed works include ‘Tritha Jatra’ drama which was adapted into the Manipuri film ‘Matamgi Manipur’ in 1972 and ‘Leipaklei’ book which was conferred with the Sahitya Akademi Award, Rakesh mentioned.

He condemned the present crisis in the state which erupted on May 3 and stated that the territorial integrity of Manipur cannot be compromised at any cost. He urged the state and Union government to take immediate measures to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
