The People’s Action for National Development Movement (PANDM) strongly condemned the director of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Manipur for allegedly carrying out various irregularities in functioning of the institute.
A release by secretary of IPR, PANDM, Roshnikanta Singh said that NIT Manipur was set up in the state after facing so many challenges and difficulties but its standard fails to meet the mark till date as the institution is functioning under wish and whims of the director. He said that as per the inspection made by PANDM, they have found many irregularities in the institution. He also alleged that the institute was set under the Ministry of Human Resource Development and many funds were sanctioned, however the director did not take up appropriate measures to fill up the shortages of many amenities.
Singh further said that there is lack of many faculties in the institute but no recruitments were taken up by the director of the institute and appointed the person whom he wanted to be the in-charge of the vacant post. This has resulted in many qualified persons not to apply for the said post, he added in the release. Besides this, most of the faculties of administration block are appointed on contract basis and service extension are being done in an unbiased manner. Such a system has demotivated many staff to work in the institute, the release added.
It continued that even a person who has just completed MTech and does not hold PhD is allowed work as lecturer (teaching assistant). There had been many complaints against the director in connection with taking frequent leaves, it added.
In the release, he recalled that the director had been served show cause notice from the department of Higher Education, New Delhi under MHRD for not staying in the office for more than 15 days. The notice was served on May 16 but the director responded on May 24. The authority concerned has also warned the director not to repeat the same in future, however, he continued to be outside the state most of the time.
While appealing to authority concerned to take stringent action in this regard, the release said that the matter should not be taken lightly and the authority concerned should take appropriate steps or NIT will be in a pathetic situation.
