An outreach programme for taxpayers under the theme ‘Importance of payer taxes and ease of tax compliance’ was held in Tamenglong on Friday as a part of the Azadi Amrit Mohatsav and North East Region Converses.
In her introductory address, Commissioner of Income Tax NER GG Kamei said that all the developments that have taken place in Tamenglong are due to taxpayers’ money who had paid their taxes. She urged all to contribute what a citizen can do for nation building.
She said that filing of income tax is available on the website of income tax and everyone can sit at home and file them. She also narrated how tribal people are free from income tax and can claim the deduction from DDO. She also surged all the students to log in to the income tax website and learn what is beneficial from it.

Indian footballer Potsangbam Renedy Singh also attended as a special guest in the outreach programme.
During the outreach programme, the Income Tax department felicitated the outstanding personalities from Tamenglong district, including Indian footballer Potsangbam Renedy Singh.
The outstanding personalities who were felicitated included social activist Akeina Gonmei; social activist Alana Golmei; social worker and Human Rights Activist Aram Pamei; Medical Officer, Manipur Health Service Dr Chambo Gonmei; film-maker and actor Kachangthai Gonmei; artiste Dr Lungphak T Panmei; retired major Gaigonglung Kamei; artiste Obed Zeme; Bible translator Reverend Gaikhuanlung Gangmei; former president, Zeliangrong Union, DM Nganthuanang.
Additional Commissioner of Income Tax Range Imphal Ng Joseph Gangte, ITO (TDS) Imphal Haobijam Joyo Singh, Income tax officer Laishram Ramcharan Singh also attended as resource persons in the outreach programme.
