One-day sensitisation programme in Tamenglong

During the programme, secretary of DLSA, Tamenglong Laishram Rina Devi stated that the programme is organised to re-sensitise all the stakeholders for effective implementation of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

District Legal Services Authority, Tamenglong organised a one-day sensitisation programme under the theme “ground level issues and challenges faced by stakeholders dealing with matters related to POCSO cases” on Sunday at Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Complex, Tamenglong. 

The programme was sponsored by Manipur State Legal Services Authority under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority.

During the programme, secretary of DLSA, Tamenglong Laishram Rina Devi stated that the programme is organised to re-sensitise all the stakeholders for effective implementation of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and also to share all the issues and challenges faced by stakeholders dealing with matters related to cases under the POCSO Act. While dealing with cases under POCSO Act, we should keep in mind why such a special legislation which is gender neutral has been enacted despite having Indian Penal Code and for what purpose. Only then we will be able to implement the Act in its letter and spirit, she added. 

Advocate Kalangaipou Riamei deliberated on the topic “Protection of Children from Sexual Offences” and spoke on the salient features of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 including penetrative sexual assault, aggravated penetrative sexual assault, sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, sexual harassment, use of child for pornographic purposes and punishments for such offences, reporting of cases, recording of statement of child, medical examination etc.

Shamurailatpam Bhaigachandra Sharma, member of CWC, Tamenglong spoke on the “Role of CWC for Protection and Rehabilitation of Child Victims under POCSO Act” while Rang K, Inspector/OC-Tamenglong, PS deliberated on the topic “Challenges faced by Police Officers while investigating POCSO Cases” and Laishram Nanao Chanu, Member, JJB, Tamenglong spoke on “POCSO Cases in the context of Manipur”.

The programme was attended by Police officers of Tamenglong and Noney; Members of Tamenglong Bar; Members of JJB, Tamenglong and Noney; Chairperson and Members of CWC Tamenglong; Members of CWC, Noney; CSOs etc.
