One-day national seminar held in Churachandpur

A one-day national seminar on "Peace and Conflict Resolution with Special Reference to North East India" was held on Monday at Bethany Christian College, Churachandpur, Manipur.

A one-day national seminar on "Peace and Conflict Resolution with Special Reference to North East India" was held on Monday at Bethany Christian College, Family Lane in Churachandpur district, organised by the Department of Political Science & IQAC of Bethany Christian College.

Assistant professor Kimneihhling Haokip, Department of History, moderated while IQAC coordinator Seikholal Haokip gave the welcome speech.

Professor Jangkhongam Doungel, Fullbright Senior Research Fellow, University of Cincinnati, Ohio State USA & Professor, Department of Political Science and formal Director IQAC, Mizoram University spoke about the reason for holding the seminar stating that it was a reflection of the present crisis in Manipur, the  emergence of Underground groups after the Assam Movement. He also detailed the meaning of ''Conflict'.

During the seminar assistant professor Paolenthang Khongsai, Department of Political Science, Rayburn College; assistant professor Nengneithem Kipgen, Department of Political Science, Lamka College; assistant professor Thangkhanlal Ngaihte, Department of Political Science, Churachandpur College; assistant professor Sonthang Haokip, Department of History, Lamka College were the resource persons.

The seminar was divided into two Academic Sessions where in the first session Paolenthang Khongsai presented a paper on "Present conflict profile in the State of Manipur: Issue and Challenges"; im the second Academic session Nengneithem Kipgen presented a paper on "Free movement regime between India & Myanmar: The changing provision and the impact on the four North Eastern State of India".

This was followed by the presentation on the topic "Peace Resolution in the case of Mizoram" by assistant professor Thangkhanlal Ngaihte while Sonthang Haokip presented on "Paradox of Indigeneity: Manipur case".
