Obsolete electronic hardware waste primary drawback of digital age: Minister Sapam Ranjan

A meticulous and sincere e-waste management strategy is the urgent need of the hour, Manipur Information and Public Relation (IPR) cum Health Minister Sapam Ranjan said.

Waste pile up of old obsolete electronic hardware is the primary drawback of the digital age as such a meticulous and sincere e-waste management strategy is the urgent need of the hour, Manipur Information and Public Relation (IPR) cum Health Minister Sapam Ranjan said on Friday at Imphal.

The IPR minister was speaking at the roadshow Manipur programme organised as part of G20 Digital Innovation Alliance (DIA) National programme under the theme ‘Digitalization: Enabling India’s Tech Growth’ at NIELIT, Akampat, Imphal.

On the occasion, The IPR minister highlighted that the programme had been organised to showcase the innovative digital solutions, create an alliance of innovative ecosystems which includes start-ups, investors, mentors and institutions to build digitally innovative ideals for development of society.

Ranjan also pointed out that Manipur lagged behind in marketing of entrepreneurial innovations and products.

“We need to make people aware of the products that we are presenting; everyone from the top to the grass root levels should be made aware of new ideas and technology,” he said.

Ranjan also mentioned that the digital platform tremendously aided the nation during the Covid pandemic and further claimed that the platform made noticeable development in the post Covid period.

“Cowin app is one such innovation which benefitted health workers and the public in keeping tabs on administration of Covid vaccine,” he noted.

The minister maintained that the medical sector in Manipur had been drastically upgraded in recent years. Treatment, diagnosis and records have all received digital upgrade, he added.

“Utilization of IT based facilities in all levels of the health sector has brought out a positive impact in healthcare,” Ranjan said.

Mentioning that development in IT has changed the face of education, agriculture and many other sectors in Manipur, the minister pointed out that the security aspect in the state had also received massive push because of the development.

“Protection of personal information, law and order maintenance among other aspects have all benefited from utilization of IT,” he said.

The IPR minister reiterated that the public should be updated on knowledge of various digital platforms. He maintained that all efforts of digitalization had been possible because of prime minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Vashudhaiva Kutumbakam’.

NIELIT director N Debachandra Singh, OfBusiness co-founder Nitin Jain, CMD Babina Group of Companies Dr. Th Dhabali Thangjam singh among others attended the programme.
