Nursing school burnt to ashes, property worth Rs 50 lakh destroyed

The fire that broke out in the kitchen room of the Nursing School destroyed the dining hall, storeroom, fundamental and nutrient laboratory, kitchen, and four other rooms.

A fire, suspected to be from power fluctuation and a short circuit, gutted Kangpokpi Christian Hospital, School of Nursing leading to loss of properties worth Rs 45-50 lakh. The incident occurred around 11am on Sunday.

Kangpokpi Christian Hospital and its Nursing School is located a few kilometers away from Kangpokpi town and is under Dr GG Grozier Mission Compound Ward No.10.

The fire that broke out in the kitchen room of the Nursing School destroyed the dining hall, storeroom, fundamental and nutrient laboratory, kitchen, and four other rooms.

Paominthang Hmar, Chief Administrative Officer, Kangpokpi Christian Hospital has apprised the Relief and Disaster Minister Awangbow Newmai and the local MLA Nemcha Kipgen for the restoration of the gutted buildings and properties.

Meanwhile, Minister Nemcha Kipgen visited the hospital on Monday morning and handed over relief materials, including 25 bags of rice and other essential commodities to the Nursing school.

The fire incident was also informed to the District Administration Kangpokpi by the hospital authority for necessary action.

Kangpokpi Christian Hospital is more than 100 years old and it has been playing a pivotal role in the health sector of the society.
