NPP Manipur releases party's election 2022 manifesto, says working towards repeal of AFSPA

Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar informed that the first list of NPP candidates for the ensuing election to the Manipur Legislative Assembly will be announced on Monday.

The National People's Party (NPP), Manipur unit, on Sunday released its election manifesto 'People’s Action Document 2022'. The manifesto included its commitment towards repeal of the Armed Forces Special Protection Act (AFSPA) from the state.

The People’s Action Document 2022 drafted by National Peoples’ Youth Front national president Ratika Yumnam in consultation with NPP leaders was released at MAYOL, Iroisemba, Imphal West. It contains 150 commitments in 13 different sectors.

The sectors are political issues, economic and finance, education, environment, healthcare, gender justice, youths, sports, arts and culture, rural economy, tourism, infrastructure and effective governance mechanism.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar said the first list of NPP candidates for the ensuing election to the Manipur Legislative Assembly will be announced on Monday evening after the party's Election Committee meeting.

Joykumar, who is also the NPP national vice-president, said the candidates list may be announced in two or three different phases and the party is likely to produce candidates for at least 40 Assembly constituencies (including five or six candidates from hill constituencies).

Expecting that NPP will at least win 20 MLAs seats, he said, “No party will get absolute majority in the ensuing election.”

“As of now the NPP has no plan to make a post-poll alliance with other parties. However the final decision will be taken only after the announcement of the election result,” he added.

NPP national president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who attended the function virtually stated that unlike the manifestos of other political parties, the manifestos of the NPP includes clear cut stand on all aspects.

“I strongly believe that the public will realise the NPP’s commitment and vision for the people of Manipur if any individual goes through the manifesto,” said Sangma.

Apologising for not being able to attend such an important function of the party physically due to Covid infection, he wished all the intending candidates of NPP good luck.

Working towards securing the agro-based industries, fishery sector, tourism sector and human resource development for economic resurgence of the state is also included in the list of NPP’s commitment.

It also promises to give social accountability and transparency on education, quality education and early childhood education among others.

The manifesto also mentions setting up of a specialised training academies and improving upon existing ones for specific sports such as badminton, boxing, football and weightlifting among others.

It further mentioned that NPP will create hybrid power sources by focussing more on renewable resources such as rooftop solar power systems and give stable power supply to all areas of the state.
