No land will be affected in construction of Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighter’s Museum: Letpao Haokip

The people living in the hills should know that the present government gives priority to bring welfare for the people in order to bring a good society not by authoritarian means, Manipur Tribal Affairs and Hills Minister Letpao Haokip said.

Manipur Tribal Affairs and Hills Minister Letpao Haokip on Tuesday assured that no private land will be affected while constructing the proposed “Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighter’s Museum” at Luangkao village in Tengnoupal district.

He was speaking during the inaugural function of four-day National Conference on “Indian National Movement and Tribal Freedom Fighters of Manipur” in the context of the proposed Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters’ Museum held at Royal Hall, The Classic Hotel, Imphal on Tuesday.

The conference was organised by Tribal Research Institute, Department of Tribal Affairs and Hills in collaboration with Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP), Manipur University supported by Ministry of Tribal Affairs, government of India.

Letpao said that while constructing the said museum no private land will be affected and those who have been inhabiting in the area for years should register the land at the rate of Rs 200 per square feet instead of creating fear psychosis among the public by spreading rumours.

He said some of the civil body organisations and other local bodies had been spreading that the government is going to snatch land via tree plantation or by carrying out other activities. However, the people living in the hills should know that the present government gives priority to bring welfare for the people in order to bring a good society not by authoritarian means, he added.

Letpao said that instead of spreading rumours, people should suggest optimistic ideas and thoughts in order to bring a better developed society with peace and harmony.

To bring development in the hill district he tabled the HAC bill on the assembly floor but irrelevant demands which are beyond his purview cannot be fulfilled. He said the government cannot fulfil all the demands made and to bring a better society the people should cooperate with the government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been concerned for the welfare of the minority communities including tribal communities and under his initiatives India has the first tribal President and tribal communities should appreciate the Prime Minister for his concern towards the tribal communities, said Letpao.

Additional Chief Secretary (TA and Hills) V Vumlunmang; former Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Meijinlung Kamson also graced the Inaugural Function as president and special invitee respectively. And the first technical session of the four-day National Conference was also participated by leaders from various tribal communities, civil society leaders, student leaders besides eminent scholars, academicians, and senior level officers.
