Manipur Governor La Ganesan, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and his ministers have extended greetings to the people of Manipur, especially the women folk on the occasion of Ningol Chakouba Festival 2021.
In his message, the governor stated that ‘Ningol Chakouba’ rejuvenates family ties and strengthens the bonds of love and affection between brothers and sisters, mothers and daughters and fathers and daughters, helping in promotion of unity and integrity in society. It is a very happy and significant occasion on which the married women come to their parental houses along with their children and enjoy a sumptuous feast and receive Dakshina or gifts as a token of love and affection, it stated.
“Let us hope that the festival will be celebrated in its true spirit with the involvement of different communities in the state to bring peace, prosperity and peaceful co-existence amongst all,” he added.
Chief minister N Biren also conveyed his greetings and wishes to the people of Manipur on the joyous occasion of Ningol Chakkouba festival. Celebration of Ningol Chakkouba has now been extended to other communities, states and countries as well though it was primarily a festival of the Meitei community in the beginning, he stated. The festival also promotes the feeling of peaceful co-existence and harmonious living by reaffirming our faith in the traditional values of love and protection, he further stated.
“Let us imbibe the ideals of this festival to foster the spirit of amity, harmony and goodwill in our lives,” he added.
Forest Minister Awangbow Newmai, conveying his greetings to the people of the State, especially to the womenfolk on the occasion of Ningol Chakouba Festival, stated that the festival has now encompassed other communities in the state which is a testimony to the increasing unity and integration in the state.
“I hope the festival will strengthen the bond of love among the brothers and sisters, daughters and parents of a family. May the festival herald an era of progress and prosperity in the state,” he stated in his message.
Works Minister Th Biswajit Singh extended his wishes, stating that Ningol Chakkouba is a unique festival of the Manipuri community which is celebrated every year on the second day of Manipuri month of ‘Heeyangei’.
On this auspicious day, married women are invited over by brothers and parents to a feast and given `Dakshina’ at the parental homes, he stated in his message. These intimate and nostalgic moments strengthen the bond of love and affection between brothers and sisters, he further stated, adding “may this year’s celebration help in bringing unity, peace and bond of love among different communities residing in the state.”
Education Minister S Rajen Singh also greeted the people on the occasion. “May this year’s festival once again awaken the spirit of humanity, peace, prosperity, good health, happiness and creative living in the minds of the people of the state,” he stated in his message.
Agriculture Minister Lukhoi Singh conveyed his wishes while stating that Ningol Chakouba is the largest and most popular festival celebrated by the people of Manipur irrespective of caste, creed, and religion.
“Let us all celebrate this festival while adhering to the COVID-19 SOPs,” he stated in his message.
Employment minister Th Satyabrata stated that Ningol Chakouba is a festival of family reunion that signifies Manipur’s rich cultural heritage, while extending his wishes to the people of the state.
“I hope that this year’s Ningol Chakouba brings happiness, prosperity, harmonious coexistence and goodwill in Manipur,” he added.
Speaker Manipur Legislative Assembly Yumnam Khemchand Singh also extended Ningol Chakouba wishes. “In the world over, women make homes. The festival is a grand tribute paid for their roles in making homes,” he stated in his message. “May on this grand day, womenfolk of the state be bestowed with unconditional love of their parents, brothers and sisters forever cherished”.
