Newly inducted Awangbow Newmai allocated two portfolios

Tamei MLA of  Tamenglong district, Awangbou, who is also the president of NPF Manipur unit, was sworn in as a cabinet minister on May 29.

Two portfolios, forest, environment and climate change and sericulture, have been allocated to Awangbou Newmai, who was recently inducted as a cabinet minister in the BJP-led coalition government.

Chief secretary J Suresh Babu issued a government notice in this regard on Tuesday. Tamei MLA of  Tamenglong district, Awangbou, who is also the president of NPF Manipur unit, was sworn in as a cabinet minister on May 29.  

The NPF, a regional party based in Nagaland, is one of the major parties of the coalition government.  The portfolios earlier held by Th Shyamkumar of Andro assembly constituency were transferred to deputy chief minister, Y Joykumar following the disqualification of the former in March.

However, Joykumar was stripped of all his portfolios on April 9, following a controversy over rice distribution in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Subsequently, the chief minister had taken over all the portfolios that were held by Joykumar. 

While the forest, environment and climate change and sericulture have been allocated to Newmai, the chief minister has taken hold of home, personnel, planning, GAD, vigilance, transport, minor irrigation, tourism, minority affairs, OBC and SC, information technology, finance, horticulture and soil conservation, MAHUD, science and technology, economics and statistics and any other departments not allocated specifically.
