Employees under the umbrella of All India State Government Employees’ Federation (AISGEF), Manipur Government Services’ Federation (MGSF) and the Manipur Secretariat Services’ Association (MSSA) observed National Demands’ Day on Friday by demonstrating a sit-in-protest at various departments, including Manipur Secretariat office, demanding to fulfil the ‘11-points demand’ for the welfare of employees.
Speaking on the sideline of the protest staged at New Secretariat building, in Imphal on Friday, MSSA president Purujit Lairikyengbam told the media that the employees are also holding demonstrations in support of the National Demands Day which is being observed across the nation for two consecutive days.
As for Manipur, the state government has announced Saturday as holiday and therefore, the employees will observe it only on Friday.
The 11-points demand include scrapping of National Pension Scheme (NPS) and restoring of old pension systems; releasing of all DA doses; filling up all regular vacancies through statutory recruitment boards; establishment of subordinate service recruitment boards and police recruitment boards, he said.
It also included filling up of all promotional vacancies; settling all anomaly issues including that of school teachers; extending the benefit of 7th Pay revision to employees of grant-in-aid bodies; stopping rampant extension of services in all departments, he said. It also demanded that there should be no contract appointment against regular vacancies. It further demanded to release all due benefits of the pensioners and avail service benefits to all work charged employees as per rules, he added.
Similar demonstrations were also conducted at the Electricity department, Keishampat and other departments under the umbrella of the employees group.
The protest was demonstrated during the lunch hour and after the lunch hour, employees resumed to their service.
