Murder convict found dead in Manipur Sajiwa Central Jail

A prisoner, convicted in 2016 for the crime of murder and serving life imprisonment at Manipur Central Jail, was found dead around 4.22 am Friday.

A man who had been serving a life-imprisonment at Sajiwa Central Jail under Heingang Police Station in Imphal East was found dead at around 4.22 am on Friday, sources said

The deceased prisoner was identified as one Jambiakgal Paite, 52, son of (L) Chengkhup Paite from Jelhang, New Lamka in Churachandpur district. He was convicted in 2016 for the charge of murdering a couple in 1999.  

A team of Forensic Science Laboratory inspected his cell in Sajiwa Central Jail. Post mortem was conducted on the body in the presence of an executive magistrate at JNIMS.

It is suspected that he died of an illness. His family members said the prisoner was suffering from kidney problems.
